Building A Foundation For Bone Health

Traditionally, diets and supplements high in calcium, magnesium and vitamin D have been recommended for people with osteoporosis or weakening bones. These three nutrients are important for good bone density and lasting bone health. Without an adequate dietary source of calcium the body will take calcium from bone to support higher-priority body systems like circulation and nervous systems.

Calcium also helps maintain proper pH balance. An internal environment that is too acidic from a high acid-forming diet will cause calcium to be leached from bone tissue to restore an alkaline balance.

In order for calcium to find its way into bone tissue it requires two important nutrients sadly missing from the modern diet: magnesium and vitamin D. Magnesium produces calcitonin which draws calcium out of soft tissue and into bone tissue. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption and requires magnesium to convert it into its most active form.

Calcium, magnesium and vitamin D are the foundational nutrients for long-term bone health. However, be cautioned. Studies have shown that although calcium does support the slowing of bone loss, on it’s own it has not been able to reverse or prevent osteoporosis. In fact, individuals without a calcium deficiency have still developed osteoporosis. For a truly healthy skeletal system, or if you need to increase bone density or reverse bone loss, vitamins and minerals are important, but only the beginning.
Beyond Vitamins And Minerals

Candida is a fungus or yeast that is just about everywhere in our environment as well as in our body.Present in our bodies in moderate levels is normal and necessary and does not affect our health in a negative way. However, if candida is left to grow beyond normal levels, it can cause our health to go down.Normally the immune system prevents candida from over growing, but if our immune function is compromised, candida can grow and proliferate. Contributing to this are a variety of factors.

3. Poor digestion: (constipation or diarrhea, gas, bloating, cramps, heartburn, nausea, gastritis, colitis, etc.)

4. 7. Skin: athlete‘s foot, jock itch, skin rash, hives, dry brownish patches, oily skin around the nose and chin, rough skin on sides of arms which gets worse at certain times of the month or under increased stress.

9. Clinical history (early childhood): CNS -hyperactivity, aggressiveness, SKIN – cradle cap, diaper rash, thrush, RESP.-chronic ear infection, tonsillitis, GI-colic.

10. Miscellaneous: feel bad all over, cold extremities, arthritis-like symptoms, white coating on tongue upon arising (non-fasting state), standard blood parameters between normal limits.

NOTE: Not everyone with some combination of the above symptoms will have Candida – but the likelihood of it is high.

Step 2: Balance the pH by keeping your body acid-alkaline balanced. Balance proteins and carbohydrates. Protein (acidic) and berries and veggies (alkaline) help to balance the pH. Too much of either can upset this balance. Improve digestion as food that has not been properly digested will ferment in the digestive system and become perfect food for yeast. Also use alkaline water and reduce stress.

Step 3: Use Probiotics which help restore friendly bacteria while fighting candida. Probiotics also contribute to a healthier pH and assists immune function.
